Day 2: Trek from Sankri to Sikolta

Your first day on the Sankri trek promises a delightful blend of natural beauty and physical challenge. As you step out from Sankri, inhale the crisp mountain air and lose yourself in the tranquil embrace of a towering pine forest. Keep your eyes peeled for vibrant Himalayan birds flitting amongst the branches – treepies, drongos, woodpeckers, and more might grace you with their presence.

The well-marked trail leads you on a gradual ascent, offering moments of serene respite under the shade of the pines. After roughly an hour and a half, you’ll encounter a small bridge, a perfect spot to pause, take a deep breath, and appreciate the symphony of nature around you. Remember to take cautious steps as you navigate the bridge.

As you continue your climb, you’ll arrive at Jainol Thatch, a picturesque clearing that invites you to rest and soak in the surrounding beauty. A short ten minutes further, Dhaunda unfolds before you, revealing the first breathtaking glimpse of the majestic Phulara Ridge.

Day 3: Trek from Sikolta to Bhoj Gadi

The trek from Sikolta to Bhojgadi Campsite offers a captivating introduction to the diverse landscapes of the Himalayas. This moderately challenging route unfolds over a scenic day’s journey, transitioning from verdant forests to vibrant meadows and culminating in a breathtaking mountain vista.

    Navigating the Serene Forests

The initial ascent begins with a 30-minute trek through a dense, yet beautiful, forest. Sunlight filters through the canopy, dappling the path in a mesmerizing light show. Tread cautiously, keeping an eye out for fallen trees along the way. As you reach the end of this forested stretch, a sturdy wooden bridge signals the transition to the next chapter of your adventure.

A Refreshing Respite and a Stimulating Climb

Before crossing the bridge, a short descent followed by a steeper climb (approximately 100 meters) presents a stimulating challenge. This narrow section with potential landslide areas demands careful navigation. Safety remains paramount throughout your trek.

The bridge itself serves as a natural gateway, separating the traversed valley from the path ahead. Beneath the bridge flows a refreshing stream, an ideal spot to replenish your water bottles and savour the pure refreshment nature offers. Take a moment to appreciate the tranquillity of this idyllic spot before continuing your ascent.

Crossing the bridge, a gentle 15-minute climb leads you to the expansive clearing known as Karsu Thatch. Imagine a vibrant tapestry of lush green grass, bursting with a cheerful display of yellow wildflowers. As you enter this larger meadow, the majestic Kedarkantha Peak comes into view, its grandeur stealing the show. Notice the gradual decline in the tree line, a visual marker of the changing landscape.

Staying to your left, continue the gradual ascent for another 30 minutes. The trail winds its way through a captivating display of Rhododendron bushes and towering Bhoj trees. After the monsoon season, these come alive with vibrant blooms, adding another layer of colour to the scenic tapestry.

As you progress, the trail opens up into clearings, eventually leading you to a breathtaking expanse of lush green meadows. Walking on this soft green carpet is a treat for both your eyes and legs. In the distance, Dhunda Top, the highest point on this hill, emerges as a captivating landmark.

A gentle 15-minute climb followed by a 10-minute walk to the left brings you to your well-deserved destination for the day – the Bhojgadi campsite. Nestled amidst a beautiful meadow, this haven offers a serene atmosphere and awe-inspiring vistas. A stream flows nearby, providing a refreshing water source for your stay.

Consider venturing on an optional excursion or acclimatization walk to the top of the hill. A long ridge leads you upwards, offering a potential route down to Kedarkantha (subject to proper planning and guidance). From this vantage point, witness the captivating Purola region, the majestic peaks of Swargarohini and Devkyara, Lekha Top, Vijay Top, and many more.

Bhojgadi Campsite is renowned for its breathtaking sunsets and sunrises. Imagine the sky ablaze with vibrant colours as the sun dips below the horizon, or the first rays of dawn painting the snow-capped peaks in a golden hue. This is a place to relax, unwind, and truly connect with the awe-inspiring beauty of the Himalayas.

So, lace up your boots and embark on this unforgettable journey from Sikolta to Bhojgadi Campsite. The captivating landscapes, the invigorating climbs, and the serenity of the campsite await!

Day 4: Trek from Bhoj Gadi to Pushtara via Phulara Ridge

The fourth day of your Sankri trek offers a thrilling adventure – a challenging ascent to the panoramic Phulara Ridge and a serene haven at Pushtara meadows. Fuel up for the climb, as there’s no water source on the way.

From Bhoj Gadi, glimpse the Phulara Ridge, your morning’s conquest. The initial climb is gentle, with a chance to spot vibrant Himalayan Monals. After 45 minutes, reach the summit and witness a stunning 250-degree panorama of snow-capped peaks.

The trail continues along the ridge, offering further exploration and incredible mountain vistas. After an hour, take a right turn, feeling like you’re entering a grand stage. Look out for Hanuman Top and Sarutal Top. The trail then leads you through ascents and descents, with opportunities to see Monals and wildflowers.

A slight descent followed by an ascent reveals the Purola Valley below. Be aware of the snow during winter months and the lack of water sources. In April, expect a tricky snow section (1.5 hours) that would be a 30-minute journey without snow.

Once you’ve crossed the valley, vast Pushtara meadows unfold before you. This will be your campsite for the night. Optionally, explore the valley below to find Taloti Lake and Pushtara Lake. After a day of challenges and rewards, Pushtara Meadows awaits, offering a night under a mesmerizing blanket of stars.

The trek to Pushtara via the Phulara Ridge is a day etched in memories, showcasing the captivating beauty of the Sankri trek.

Day 5: Trek from Pushtara to Taluka and drive to Sankri

Continuing on the same path from Tumrikot, a delightful 30-minute walk unfolds through the heart of Taluka village. This charming settlement offers a glimpse into the simple life of the Himalayas. Stone-roofed wooden huts line the path, their doorways framing glimpses of daily routines – perhaps a steaming pot of chai simmering on a hearth, or children playing amidst the quiet bustle. Keep an eye out for the few shops selling local handicrafts or basic supplies, a reminder that even in this remote location, connection to the outside world exists.

Taluka marks the official end of your trek, a bittersweet culmination of physical challenge, breathtaking scenery, and cultural immersion. As you reach the village square, look out for a clear marker pointing the way to the Har Ki Dun trek. This signpost serves as a tantalizing reminder of the countless adventures that await exploration in the majestic Himalayas.

Take a moment to savour the atmosphere of Taluka. Chat with friendly locals, their faces etched with the stories of this mountain environment. Reflect on the memories you’ve created during this unforgettable journey. From the heart-stopping panoramas of the Phulara Ridge to the tranquil serenity of Pushtara meadows, this trek has offered a unique perspective on the beauty and wonder of the Himalayas. As you bid farewell to the mountains and board the vehicle back to Sankri, carry with you the spirit of adventure and the sense of accomplishment that comes with conquering a challenging trek. The Himalayas will forever hold a special place in your heart, a reminder of the power of nature and the resilience of the human spirit.

Day 6: Drive from Sankri to Dehradun

From the challenging climbs to the breathtaking vistas, these memories will forever be a part of you. It’s then time to pack up your belongings and check out of your campsite.

Enjoy the scenic return drive to Dehradun (7-8 pm) and connect with your onward journey. Though the trek has ended, the Himalayas leave a lasting impression.
