Detailed Itinerary for Bali Pass Trek from Dehradun 2024
Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri
Kick off your adventure with a scenic journey to Sankri, your cosy basecamp nestled amidst the Himalayas. Wind through charming villages and witness cascading waterfalls alongside the majestic Yamuna River. Relax in your comfortable hotel and savour delicious local cuisine at Sankri’s vibrant cafes – the perfect start to your unforgettable trek!
Day 2: Sankri to Seema via Taluka
Get ready for adventure! After breakfast, we’ll drive for about an hour to Taluka, our starting point for the trek. Enjoy scenic views of bamboo forests and cascading streams along the way.
Our first day’s trek takes us 12km to Seema campsite. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Supin River as we navigate a dense forest filled with walnut, chestnut, and willow trees. Keep an eye out for a glimpse of traditional Himalayan architecture in Gangad village, a charming stop along the way.
Seema campsite awaits us on the opposite bank of the Supin River. Here, we’ll set up camp and spend the night surrounded by breathtaking Himalayan scenery. Remember, winters might bring snow and slush, so pack accordingly!
Day 3: Seema to Rainbasera
Day three is an adventure! We’ll trek alongside the Supin River, climbing steadily towards a breathtaking sight: Devsu Bugyal. This vast meadow unfolds like a colourful carpet, offering stunning views. Take a well-deserved break to soak it all in.
Our path then dips down, crossing a slippery riverbed before another climb to Rainbasera campsite. This cosy spot features a small hut and the mesmerizing sound of the gushing Supin River nearby. Relax by the riverside and enjoy the peacefulness of the mountains.
Day 4: Rainbasera to Ruinsara Tal
Get ready to be captivated! Today’s trek leads us to the breathtaking Ruinsara Tal, a jewel nestled amidst vibrant meadows. The path is similar to yesterday’s, offering a comfortable hike with a grand reward.
After a 3-4 hour adventure, you’ll arrive at this magical lake. Imagine camping in a dream location, nestled between the sparkling Ruinsara Tal and the thundering Supin River. Lush meadows dotted with wildflowers surround you, while the majestic peaks of Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, and Dhumdhar Kandi pierce the sky. Explore a charming temple in the area and soak in the awe-inspiring Himalayan panorama. This is a picture-perfect ending to an incredible day.
Day 5: Ruinsara Tal to Odari
Enjoy a shorter 4 km, easier trek today! Descend through lush forests and cross the Supin River with ease. Ascend to a scenic meadow and admire the breathtaking peaks you’ve conquered so far.
Our journey continues for about 3 kilometres before reaching Odari, our unique campsite named after a natural rock cave. Legend has it this cave was once home to Bali, Lord Krishna’s brother!
Take in the stunning views of Swargarohini I and II peaks from Odari. In the afternoon, your expert guide will lead a training session to prepare you for the exciting challenges ahead on your Himalayan adventure!
Day 6: Odari to Bali Col camp
Don’t let the short distance lull you into a false sense of security. Today’s trek demands focus and determination as we tackle a challenging climb up a steep, 60-degree ridge. Loose rocks and scree will test your balance and agility, but the breathtaking panoramic vistas unfolding before you will fuel your motivation.
This stage is crucial for proper acclimatization. Remember, staying hydrated and well-rested is paramount to avoiding altitude sickness (AMS) at this elevation. Be mindful of the loose stones along the trail, and don’t hesitate to take breaks whenever needed. Temperatures plummet below freezing at night, so pack plenty of warm layers to combat the biting cold.
Tonight, we’ll reach our much-anticipated base camp, perched at an impressive 15,100 feet. After this challenging ascent, unwind and relax in your tent. Tomorrow brings the ultimate reward – the summit push! Make sure to carry at least 2 litres of water, as there are no water sources on the way to base camp. A good night’s sleep is essential to conserve your energy for the momentous climb ahead.
Day 7: Bali Col camp to Lower Dhamni via Bali Pass
Today’s the big one! Grab a hearty breakfast and get ready for an early start (around 6 AM). We’re trekking southeast to conquer the mighty Bali Pass (4,950 meters), the highest point of our adventure!
The snowy path to the pass is steep, so follow your guide closely. Microspikes will give you extra grip, but ropes aren’t needed. After a challenging 2-3 hour climb, you’ll reach the summit – a truly rewarding moment!
Enjoy the incredible 360-degree views – towering peaks, valleys, and the feeling of accomplishment! But the fun’s not over! The descent is a thrilling challenge down a steep, rocky path. Focus and follow your guide’s instructions.
After conquering this section, we’ll rest at Upper Dhamni. Then, an easier trail through the forest leads us to our final camp – Lower Dhamni. Celebrate reaching the Bali Pass and relax in your tent tonight!
Day 8: Lower Dhamni to Jaan ki Chatti and drive to Dehradun
Today’s your final Himalayan hurrah! Enjoy an easier descent on a paved trail, culminating in a visit to the sacred Yamunotri shrine. After soaking up the sights, we’ll head back to Dehradun, stopping at Janki Chatti along the way. An early departure ensures a smooth return by evening. Congratulations! You’ve conquered the Garhwal Himalayas – celebrate and reminisce tonight in Dehradun!
